Hansjörg Albrecht is one of the few artists who are regularly present internationally both as a conductor and as a concert organist. As a conductor, he is internationally regarded above all as a passionate specialist for Bach and the music of the 18th century, but as an all-round musician he consistently goes his own way – between archive and new creation, with an extensive repertoire from as far back as Olivier Messiaen, numerous world premieres as well as a soft spot for forgotten composers such as Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Hans Rott, Walter Braunfels and Mieczysław Weinberg. With his organ transcriptions, he established himself as a specialist among the virtuosos of his instrument. Albrecht succeeded the legendary Karl Richter as conductor of the Munich Bach Choir and the Munich Bach Orchestra from 2005 to 2023, leading the ensemble to new international fame.

Albrecht was also Principal Guest Conductor at the Teatro Petruzzelli Bari from 2021–2023.

Since the 2023/24 season, he has been Artistic Director of the CPE Bach Academy Hamburg as well as the choir of the same name and an annual festival and is working – with the Elbphilharmonie as a musical centre and in cooperation with the Bach Archive Leipzig – on establishing Hamburg as an International Bach City and building a new platform for the Sturm und Drang music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and his brothers. He has also worked for many years with the San Carlo Opera House in Naples, the Russian Chamber Orchestra in Moscow, the Staatskapelle Weimar and the Hamburg and Munich Symphony Orchestras.

His concert activities have taken him to music centres such as London, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Rome, Moscow, Tokyo and New York, where he regularly works with internationally renowned artists and orchestras – currently including Jan Vogler, Christian Gerhaher, Michael Volle, Sergei Nakarjakov, Reinhold Friedrich, Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Mikhail Pletnev and Andrea Lucchesini, orchestras such as the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra della Fondazione Arena di Verona, the Dresdner Kapellsolisten and original sound ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln, the Dresden Festival Orchestra, the Halle Handel Festival Orchestra and the Lautten Compagney Berlin.

Albrecht has conducted prestigious Mozart opera productions at the Teatro San Carlo Naples and the new Dubai Opera House, among others, as well as ballet projects with the dance companies of Marguerite Donlon and Boris Eifman.

In addition to a premiere performance of the reconstruction of a missing St Luke Passion by J.S. Bach in Hamburg, which was advertised by German television (ARD) and recorded by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), in 2024 he will follow numerous concert invitations in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Croatia, Scandinavia and several times to China – especially with the oeuvre of Anton Bruckner.

Cornelius Meister, born in Hanover in 1980, became principal conductor and artistic director of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna in September 2010.

With the RSO Vienna he has held regular concerts in the Vienna Musikverein and the Vienna Konzerthaus. Extensive tours have taken him to Japan and throughout Europe, including to Salzburg Festival. Together with the RSO Vienna, he has been present on European radio, European television, on albums and in the internet.

From 2005 to 2012, Cornelius Meister was general director of music in Heidelberg. During this time he was awarded the ‘Prize for the Best Concert Programme’ by the German Federation of Music Publishers and the ‘Young Ears’ Prize and the Prize of the German Music Council for conveying music to children and adolescents in 2007 and 2010.

In concerts, Cornelius Meister also conducts Het Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Manchester, the Washington Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia Rome, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester Stockholm, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, the Ensemble intercontemporain Paris, the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg and the Symphony Orchestra of Bavarian Radio.

At the age of 21, Cornelius Meister held his début at Hamburg State Opera, followed by débuts at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the New National Opera Tokyo, the San Francisco Opera, the German Opera in Berlin, the Theater an der Wien, the Latvian National Opera in Riga (Der Ring des Nibelungen), the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, the Semper Opera in Dresden, Zurich Opera and Vienna State Opera.

Cornelius Meister studied piano and conducting with Konrad Meister, Martin Brauss and Eiji Oue in Hanover and with Dennis Russel Davies, Jorge Rotter and Karl Kamper at Salzburg Mozarteum. He also plays the cello and the French horn. As a pianist, he has held concerts in Europe and the USA and is a prizewinner of the German Music Competition and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
